Grades and Responsibilities

While attending Albuquerque Doggie Spa you will need to maintain a grade average on your written tests of 75% or more to remain in the instructional program. All grooming practical tests will either pass or fail. You will be able to retake the practical tests until you can complete the groom properly of that pet type.

While in school you will be expected to progress at the rate below.

  • At 100 hours: you should be able to bath, brush and complete the basics on a pet in a 4 hour period.
  • At 150 hours:you should be able to complete a rough cut and bath, brush and complete the basics on a pet in a 4 hour period.
  • At 240 hours: you should be able to move into finishing and now need to be able to complete one pet in a 4 hour period.
  • At 300 hours: you should be able to complete two full grooms in an 8 hour period.
  • At 350 hours: you should be able to complete 2 full grooms and one bath and brush in 8 hours.
  • At 400 hours: you should be able to complete 2 full grooms and 2 bath and brushes in 8 hours.
  • At 450 hours: you should be able to complete 3 full grooms in 8 hours.
  • After 500 hours: you will be given your practical tests on your test animals. These tests will be administered using a Schnauzer, a Shih Tzu, a Cocker Spaniel, and a Poodle. You will learn to groom other breeds, but your tests will only be on these.
  • At 540 hours you may at any time test on your 4 animals in an 8 hour period needed to complete your course only if all other tests are completed.
  • After this you will complete your hours that are left.

You will be required to take the written test on CPR in the first week of class after that you may take each written test as you feel comfortable doing so.

The grading system equals

100% to 91% = A
90 % to 81% = B
80 % to 71% = C

Test scores under 75% is not accepted.
